How to play CS 1.6 online.

Counter-Strike 1.6 is built around community servers. Choose a server whose rules, region and client requirements fit how you want to play.

Start with the server browser

After extracting and opening the client, open the server browser from the game menu. Select a listed server and connect. You can also add a compatible server by address in Favorites.

Join a server you already know

Use Favorites to add a server's address and port, or enter a direct connection command in the developer console. Use an address supplied by a server operator you trust.

connect server.example:27015

The example above is a placeholder, not a working server. You can join other compatible servers; server admission, passwords, bans and Steam authentication requirements are controlled by each server.

Choose a team and class

After the map loads, follow the team and class menus. A full server, a live competitive match or a spectator restriction may prevent an immediate spawn. Read the server's rules and messages before reconnecting repeatedly.

Connection quality and missing content

Choose a nearby server with a low ping. Some servers download extra maps or other game content when you join.

If a connection fails, record the exact error and check the connection troubleshooting steps. Never install an unknown executable offered by a server to fix an ordinary map or connection error.
